Summer is almost over, but the hot weather is here to stay! Lucky for us in Miami, there’s a place that has all the best natural juices to refresh your day. That place is located on 5721 West Flagler Street, and it’s called El Palacio De Los Jugos, or The Juice Palace.

Miami’s own creative heads, Lourdes and Augusto Hanimian of Luli Fama swimwear, put on quite a show last Sunday at their 2011 swim collection debut, during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim. “It wasn’t just about the bathing suits.” said a member of the audience, “It was about the production as a whole; they put together something very untraditional, yet entertaining.” she added.

As the lights dimmed, a suited young man, wearing converse that is, stepped into the runway performing Mike Posner’s hit single: “cooler than me”. The crowd was quick to cheer and pull out their cameraphones, but were they naive to think it was the real deal? The answer is yes. Although a very talented singer, the artist at stage was not in fact Mike Posner; some even jokingly referring to him as “The Posner Poser”. Up-and-coming celebrity or not, the performance was rather delightful and left the spectators in tune for the collection to come.

Luli Fama is proverbial of stylized silhouettes, unique cuts, and beautiful prints. The 2011 collection categorized just that, this year however, with the addition of some extra flattering fits. Case in point: a black monokini segmented into strands along the bodice, which tied into bows on the side of the suit with a break at the hip, giving the illusion of a half bikini bottom, half monokini suit.

The principal print this season stayed true to the label’s flirty and contemporary design heritage yet came back in a bolder make: a mystical conglomeration of deep colors and flowery blends. Also showcased were stud embellished two-pieces, ruched tie-dye suits, and stripped bikinis in colorful mesh.

Along with playfully daring swimsuits, the Luli Fama 2011 collection was stocked with pool-side caftans, haltered mini rompers, and maxi dresses perfect for the beach. The collection was refreshing, and had an understated allure that felt tropical and sophisticated in equal measure; rendering yet more evidence that this local treasure is headed to the top.

Was it beachwear or was it lingerie? This was a question that sparked many spectators intrigue at the Beach Bunny Swimwear collection, presented during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim 2011. Suits of leather and lace, along with eye bandage, and the sound of electro set the mood at the showing last Friday. That is, with a lineup of some rather curvaceous models that daubed a hint of controversy down the runway. As if that wasn’t enough to light the match, the front row was star packed with none less than celebrity sisters, Kim, Khloe, and Kourtney Kardashian, as well as Disney’s darling, Selena Gomez.

Scoop tops, monokinis, and ruched bottoms, came mostly in hues of black, aqua, white, and gold. Trims were embellished with black lace applique and metallic hardware on most of the pieces, bringing forth a feel of ultimate sensuality. One-piece suits featured halter ties with an opening at the chest, and segmented cuts. The models gallanted down the set with sheer, black, thigh-high stockings brimmed in lace, that blurred the lines between resort wear and bedroom wear. Whether the collection was sexy to the extreme, or simply on the edgy side, is up to you to decide. What we can call for certain is that this year, the Beach Bunny tent gave the audience something to talk about.

From beginning to end, the show left spectators at awe, and it wasn’t just about the clothes. The music, the models, the makeup, and accessories all pitched in to create an extraordinary production with a true visionary at the heap. A mix between tribal and psychedelic prints were incorporated in the collection, giving off a sense of cool, and innovative design. The prints had a great surrealism to them, blending natural elements such as crystal caves in with colorful geometric shapes. The overall feel, however, was very organic.

Mara Hoffman’s collection introduced some edgy styles that broke out from the traditional swimwear cuts currently in the market. Bikinis with multiple straps, deep-neckline one-pieces, and criss-cross lattice detailing where recurrent throughout the collection. Models strutted down the catwalk in tribal-inspired makeup, and Lori Leven jewelry and accessories, to the beat of an electric playlist. The closer model stepped out wearing a unique caftan in a flowy sheer white fabric, stamped with the collection’s signature print, an abstract setting of crystals and horses. Hot pink pants and headscarves were also seen, displaying a trippy print, reminiscent of the Jimi Hendrix era.

The originality behind the Mara Hoffman swim 2011 collection was unparalleled throughout the tradeshow, and favored amongst many. Making it’s way to the cover of The Daily Front Row magazine, the attention grabbing pieces of the collection had a big hit this season. Los Angeles based design house, Trina Turk, showcased their Swim & Spa 2011 collection last Thursday, July 15th, kicking-off IMG Fashion’s annual swimwear event, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim. For the sixth year in a row, the event took place at one of the trendiest spots in South Florida, home to many exclusive fashion showings, The Raleigh hotel in Miami Beach. Setting the stage at one of the largest, if not the largest, swim and resort wear tradeshows in the world, Trina Turk received the official “Mercedes-Benz Presents” designer title for their genuine make encompassed around superior materials, excelling prints, and a graceful design concept. The collection, “Acapulco Gold” was complete with a full range of vibrant resort wear, paired with oversized PVC totes, and gold embellished cork wedges. Mixed prints dominated the scene, as a set of retro print bikinis made a duo with black-and-white safari sportcoats, and tunics.

The models catted down the runway sporting an original lot of generously sized slouch hats, ribbon-tied fedoras, and top hats made of straw. There was a fresh scent of 70’s Acapulco in the air, and tunes by Venezuelan band, Los Amigos Invisibles spread a cool Latin rhythm in the tents. Amongst the spectator’s favorites, was a green-blue degrade chiffon tunic dress that displayed a graceful flow across the runway. “It [the dress] was gorgeous, the way it moved made me feel like it was full of life, the model looked like a goddess in it.” – said Jennifer Strauss, a member of the audience. Also popular amongst the populous, was a beachy-chic tweed crop jacket and pair of shorts made in a dark camel and meshed in with gold string.

Without a doubt, Trina Turk has set the standard for swimwear design this year at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim. Their collection was a hip representation of what the modern woman, and man, wants to wear while soaking up the sun by the beach. It’s our city’s birthday, its 114th birthday!!!! and the celebration is this Wednesday, July 28th at the American Airlines Arena. Join Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado, and many Miami residents for an evening filled with everything this wonderful city has to offer.

There will be a food tasting from 20 top restaurants, premium open bars compliments of Grey Goose, live music, and the cost is only $25. The best part of it all, the $25 you pay to enjoy this big celebration goes to a local charity of your choice: Allapattah Community Action Center, Best Buddies, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Centro Mater, CHARLEE Homes for Children, Downtown Miami Partnership, Friends of Gusman, Friends of Miami-Dade Public Library, Friends of Miami Marine Stadium, Hands on Miami, Switchboard of Miami, Voices for Children, and YWCA.

As some of you know, on April 25th our team got together with Ombu Lifestyle and GG art work to celebrate Earth Day and our city by organizing a fun beach clean up day. We have decided that our city needs our help and not just one day, but every day we can, so Leave No Waste is happening again this Sunday, July 25th. We would like to invite familiar and new faces to contribute with this cause and help us do something small that makes all the difference.

The event is taking place on July 25th at 3:30 pm, in South Pointe. We are setting up a tent on the sand, next to the rocks so you can look for us there. Bring your friends, family members, and spend the day with us doing something you will feel good about.
