Maggie Jimenez- Cook/Tv personality

Maggie Jimenez is a Mexican cook/tv personality that has been compared to Rachel Ray on numerous occasions. People love her for her simple and delicious recipes that make it so easy to learn. You can watch her cook in Spanish on her show ¡Qué Sabor!

When did you realize you had a passion for cooking?
I knew i had a passion for cooking when I started helping my grandmother in the kitchen when I was 7 years old.

How did you learn to cook?
My grandmother from my mother’s side taught me how to cook, and then my mom, and later I took classes.

Is anyone else in your family interested in the culinary world?
We are five sisters and we all cook! I definitely come from a family 100% interested in it.

So we know you have a show, “¡Que Sabor!” that airs every Saturday at 10:30 am in Telefutura, what can you tell us about the show?
The show is my baby! I was there from the start and now I’m watching it grow; I never thought it would grow so fast. It’s been almost three years on air and we still have a lot more years to come. It’s a very fun show, with practical recipes and a touch of lifestyle, interviews, fashion, exercises, and a lot of flavor!!

You’ve been compared to Rachel Ray because of your approach to cooking. How much of your work is technique, and how much is inspiration?
When people compare me to Rachel Ray I feel very flattered, she is a great cook . We are not chefs but we cook delicious food, we both do simple recipes and family recipes, we improvise a lot. I guess we are similar in many aspects and I like when people compare me to her, it doesn’t bother me at all. She has accomplished a lot and I hope to do the same, but with my own style!

What’s your specialty?
My specialty is definitely homemade Mexican food.

You’re from Mexico, how did you decide to move to Miami?
Before moving to Miami 10 years ago, I lived in London for two years. To tell you the truth, I never got used to living in a place so different from where I’m from, starting with the food, so I was very upset and I missed my surroundings. When I became pregnant with my first daughter (Nicole), we decided to go back to what we love, so my husband asked to be transferred to Miami because we love the beach and warm weather. They offered him a place in Miami, so we took it and we’ve been here since 1999.

How do you see Miami, from the culinary point of view?
DELICIOUS! all the latin flavors in one single city, what more can you ask for?

And finally, what’s your IN place in Miami?
I have a lot of places that I love in Miami, it all depends on my mood or what I’m looking for at the moment. Among my favorite restaurants: Michael’s, Pascal’s, Nobu and for a really good steak El Capital Grill. I also love sushi and Houston’s hamburgers, Mexican food at Talavera and for Hindu food, there’s nothing better than dinner at my friend’s house, Prya Panjabi.
