One of the advantages of living in Miami is definitely having beautiful beaches to enjoy all year round. So if you love your beaches and you are worried about the environment and the Offshore Drilling, there is something you can do: This Saturday June 26 Hand Across the Sand will hold a peaceful gathering around the world to send a message: NO to Offshore Oil Drilling, YES to Clean Energy.
In Miami, The Dolphin Foundation will team up with Hands Across the Sand to give you the opportunity to take part of this international event. All you have to do is be in one of the meeting points around11:30 a.m. wearing black and hold hands at 12:00 to form a long line on the sand for amazing, powerful pictures.
Hands Across The Sand’s mission is to change our energy policy away from its dependence on fossil fuels and into the light of clean energy. The aim is to convince our leaders to abandon expanded offshore oil drilling and adopt policies that encourage clean and renewable energy sources. “We are drawing a line in the sand against offshore oil drilling along America’s beaches and in solidarity events across America and around the world” said event founder Dave Rauschkolb. ”No one industry should be able to place entire coastal economies and marine environments at risk with dangerous, dirty mistakes.”
Hands Across the Sand is a movement made of people of all walks of life and crosses political affiliations. This movement is not about politics; it is about protection of our coastal economies, oceans, marine wildlife, and fishing industry.
There are two areas in Miami with different meeting points:
Miami Beach: 13th St. and Collins Ave., 50th St. and Collins Ave., 79th St. and Collins Ave., 96th Street and Haulover Inlet.
Key Biscayne: Key Biscayne Dog Beach – After the toll, keep right and straight until you U-Turn Under the bridge, then keep going straight to The Dolphin Foundation Adopted Area to the right (before the toll exit). Seek out Mermi The Mermaid.
