The result will be exhibited next Thursday March 31st, during Bal Harbour Art Nights. You can enjoy an original collection from artists such as Elena Bond, Luciana Abait, Alicia Erminy, Leonel Matheu, Pat Morales, Sandra Perez-Liberman, Carlos Poveda, Orlando Urdaneta among others, curated by Francine Birbragher-Rozencwaig. The works will be sold in a silent auction for the benefit of Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida.

Check out “Arts en Pointes” at Calypso St. Barth in Bal Harbour Shops, and while you are there, you can also visit photograph exhibitions by Iran Issa-Khan at Saks Fifth Avenue; Peggy Levison Nolan at St. Regis Lounge; Greg Lotus at 100% Capri; Bruce Weber at Books & Books; Bert Stern, Serge Mendjisky and Alaoui Guerra at the Opera Gallery; the The Lotus House’s” By and About Women” at Neiman Marcus and Roberto Cavalli’s photo collection “Black is Never Absolute” at his own location. Once again, South Florida stages will be filled with snowflakes, sugarplums, naughty little boys, and magical dolls– The charm of the Holidays is back this year, as Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida presents the return of the classic ballet “The Nutcracker.” The critically acclaimed performance choreographed and directed by renowned Ballet Master Vladimir Issaev, will run in Miami, Aventura, and Fort Lauderdale.

With a cast of 104 on stage, this spectacular production features the professional dancers of Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida performing the principal roles, while local character artists and children and students of the prestigious Vladimir Issaev School of Classical Ballet complete the cast.

The engaging choreography- from the fun of the party scene- to the harrowing battle scene- to the enchanting kingdom of the sweets- is guaranteed to entertain any age. This traditional ballet is performed every year by Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida to Tchaikovsky’s popular score based on the tale of Ernest Hoffman. Not only is it the most popular ballet enjoyed by all audiences around the world during this time of the year but it also serves as an introduction to ballet for the very young audiences.

Issaev’s choreography preserves the Russian tradition, and serves as an alternative to those who already have seen Balanchine’s version. This year the performance is refreshed with new costumes and set designs. The new costumes for the Party Scene and the Snow Scene are being made at the Ateliers of the Mariinsky Theatre (formerly Kirov) in Russia, while new costumes for the Angels are being created by well renowned costume designer Jorge Gallardo. Finally, a new Tree designed by Elena Bond will be lit in the middle of the stage which along with the beautiful backdrops the falling snow and the special effects, will enchant children and adults during the performance.

So get ready for clowns, intrigue, and magic, not to mention more wonderful dancing, as the company gears up for its last performance of the season.  Artistic Director, Vladimir Issaev, is bringing back Harlequinade, a ballet that has been all but forgotten, and once again, his creativity and ingenuity combine with his reverence for the classics, allowing him to create a ballet that sparkles with fresh inspiration while still remaining true to its roots.

Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida is an awarded, young and vibrating ballet company founded in 1997, under the direction of Russian-born Ballet Master and Choreographer Mo. Vladimir Issaev.

The company repertoire includes works by such Classical Ballet Masters as Petipa, Bournonville and Fokine. The Company’s performance repertoire also includes original choreographic works by its director, Vladimir Issaev.

The Company performs at important venues such as the Julius Littman North Miami Beach Performing Arts Theatre, The Parker Playhouse and the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. It also has special outreach community projects that bring art closer to children.

A Forgotten Ballet, Brought to Life Again

Originally made into a ballet in 1900, by Marius Petipa, with music by Riccardo Drigo, Harlequinade follows Harlequin (Shannon Smith or Jun Tanabe) and his lover, Columbina, (Kaori Fukui or Miho Yoshioka) as they outwit Columbina’s father, Cassander.  Cassander wishes Columbine to marry a rich suitor, so he keeps her locked up inside the house, away from Harlequin.  He entrusts the key to his servant, Pierrot (Fan Shi).  Columbina’s friend, Pierretta (Erin Simons-Brown) comes to the house and steals the key away from Pierrot.  She unlocks the house and lets Harlequin in, allowing the two lovers to reunite and more dancing to ensue.

Harlequinade has have a few restorations within the past hundred years, most notably Balanchine’s version in 1965.  However, Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida’s production of the ballet will best represent the original storyline, and will uphold the classical style in which it was first choreographed, while still maintaining a fresh and exciting atmosphere.  The rich, sumptuous music awed the audiences in the Russian Imperial Court at the premier of the ballet, and Drigo’s music continues to be loved and well-received by audiences all over the world.

Along with Harlequinade, Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida will be presenting a few smaller pieces.  The company is bringing back the neo-classical Glinka Suite Fantastique. Also, a number of pas de deuxs will be presented, including the fiery Don Quixote Pas de Deux, Issaev’s sensual and award-winning El Encuentro, which the dancers, Smith and Simons-Brown will be bringing to Denmark this summer, and the energetic and spiritely Spring Waters.

February 7.- SUPER BOWL XLIV. The 2010 Super Bowl will be played at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, This year’s Super Bowl is the 44th Superbowl, so it is officially called Super Bowl XLIV. Sun Life Stadium was formerly known as Land Shark Stadium, Dolphins Stadium and Joe Robbie Stadium. This will be the fifth time the game has been played in that stadium. The 2010 Super Bowl will be the tenth time the game has been played in South Florida (near Miami), the other five games were held at the Orange Bowl.
Super bowl XLIV tickets should be a hot commodity as the game will pair up the New Orleans Saints versus the Indianapolis Colts. That means that the quarterbacks in the 2010 Superbowl are going to be one of the big story lines for the game, because we’ll get a guaranteed future NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning up against possible future NFL Hall of Fame QB Drew Brees. This is the first time in history the Saints have made it to the Big Game, so Super Bowl XLIV’s place in the history books is already assured
for New Orleans fans. The Colts will be looking to add a 3rd NFL Championship to the record books.
